Summer Camp

Scout Summer Camp is a week-long camp, and one of the highlights of the scouting year! Campers will be responsible for their own time, and work on merit badges.

This year, we will be going to Woodruff with Troop 129B.

Q&A

Q: Should I bring a tent?

A: No tent is needed for scouts, as campers sleep in canvas tents provided by the camp. However, adults should bring one, as if there are not enough canvas tents, adults will sleep in normal tents.

Q: What will I be eating?
A: Woodruff (and other summer camps) have dining halls serving breakfast and dinner. There are also lunch kiosks throughout the camp. There will be a menu on the Woodruff website closer to summer. Don't worry, there will be plenty of food!

Q: What should I pack?
A: A packing list for summer camp should be coming soon. The camp's website also has a sample packing list.

Q: How much money should I bring for the trading post?
A: That depends. It's recommended to bring money to buy replacements for forgotten items, plus a few treats. $25 should be enough, plus money for food on the way. If you would like to buy souvenirs, you should bring more money. Trunk stickers are a cheap option, and many scouts collect trunk stickers from the camps that they go to.

Q: How do I sign up for merit badges?
A: Your scoutmaster should send out a survey with merit badge options. Pick which ones you want, then the scoutmaster will work with the camp to sign you up. Remember that you might not get everything you request, so be flexible. If you are a first-year, though, you'll likely be doing the mountaineer program.

Q: What's the mountaineer program?
A: The mountaineer program is the first-year summer camp program at Woodruff. It focuses on the requirements from scout rank to first class. It's also a place with staff who can help you find where you need to go and give you helpful advice about summer camp.
