Why 129G?
Troop 129 G was established in the spring of 2024 and is a small but active group of girls in the Tucker community. While there are many other good troops in the area, here is information about who we are and who we want to be
-We meet at our Scout Hut on North Park Drive in Tucker on Mondays from 6:30-8. While this doesn't say much about who we are as a troop, logistics is important. We know that girls who are involved in other activities will often have to miss our weekly meetings, but if you always have a conflict at that time, another troop may be better for you.
-We aim to have one camping trip or other adventure per month, in addition to our weekly meetings. Girls choose and plan these as much as possible. Very few people can make ALL the trips, but the more you participate, the more fun you have!
-In addition to Troop 129 G on Mondays, there is a Cub Pack 129 for boys and girls in Kindergarten-5th grade that meets Sundays and a Troop 129 B for boys ages 11-17 that meets Tuesdays. Having all three organizations as "siblings" with the same chartering organization helps us coordinate activities and share resources. This is great for families with multiple kids in different organizations but is also fun for all!
-Our sponsor, known as our "Chartering Organization" in scout-speak, is Cherokee Trails, which exists solely to support scouting in Tucker and was founded to make scouting accessible to all. Most troops are chartered by various religious and civic groups whose primary mission isn't scouting. This difference frees us to work with whatever civic and religious groups our girls choose to work with while having the most diverse membership possible.
-We are budget-conscious. Tucker is a great community with affluent, middle class, and low-income families. We make choices with that in mind, wanting to make sure that no one is ever left out of scouting due to cost or made to feel less-than due to need. For this reason, we have things like an active "experienced uniform" closet that all scouts are encouraged to take from as they need and donate to as they grow and regular fundraisers that we participate in as a troop. Parents who notice costs creeping up or who have ideas for keeping scouting both affordable and fun should speak up at parent committee meetings but are also welcome to speak one-on-one with an established leader.
-Our girls come from various schooling backgrounds, including a number of public, private, and home schooling options. This means that no one feels left out because they are the only one not taking Algebra with Ms G. Our girls bond while scouting, freeing them as much as possible from school drama.
-Our small group of founding Scouts isn't very ethnically diverse but celebrates the other differences we have. We hope to reflect the community we are in as we grow. Scouts and families from all religious, non religious, ethnic, economic, family, political, etc backgrounds are welcome and we are looking forward to seeing how we change as we grow.
